About Soutron Global

Soutron Global is an internationally recognized provider of cloud-based, scalable information management systems for corporate archives, libraries, information/knowledge hubs, and museums. Since 1989, we have been the longest-serving supplier of library and information management software in the UK market, with an expanding presence in North America, Europe, and Asia.
Our Archive Management System is trusted by government agencies, corporations, historical societies, and cultural institutions worldwide to manage, preserve, and provide access to their most valuable archival collections. As we continue to innovate and expand our archives capabilities, we are seeking a Product Owner to help shape the future of our archives product line.

Role Overview

As a vital member of the Product Management team, the Product Owner will frequently interact with other Product Owners, Developers, and most importantly archivists and records managers themselves to determine the needs of our clients. You will create and prioritize requirements that enable development teams to build features that help organizations preserve, discover, and share their archival collections.

You Would Feel Right at Home If...

  • You're known as an organized task master who is happy managing the constant challenge of ensuring tasks get organized and prioritized in a logical manner
  • You are proud of your ability to deeply understand what users want and clearly and concisely communicate complex concepts to a variety of people ranging from archivists and records managers to developers
  • You are a self-starter and able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment
  • You enjoy using a wide variety of software applications, learning new ones, and learning how things work using the trial and error method—you consider yourself a lifelong student who thrives in an environment that is constantly evolving
  • You frequently draw on your strong interpersonal skills when working with multiple departments and subject matter experts
  • You have a genuine interest in archives, records management, digital preservation, or cultural heritage—or are excited to learn about these domains

Key Responsibilities

  • 'Own' prioritization of development work for the Archives product, reporting to VP of Product, who will guide the strategy and work alongside you to move the product forward
  • Participate in the Agile process, including remote team members, acting as the expert for the Archives product and its users
  • Represent the archivist when planning features, driving new functionality development from a user perspective—understanding workflows around accessioning, arrangement, description, preservation, and access
  • Interact with users virtually and in person to ensure a complete understanding of the problems they are trying to solve; conducting product walk-throughs for both internal and external audiences
  • Assist development teams in creating a consistent, intuitive user experience for the Archives product
  • Stay current with archival standards and best practices (ISAD(G), DACS, ISAAR(CPF), EAD, Dublin Core) and understand how they inform product requirements
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Customer Success, Sales, and Support teams to gather feedback and identify opportunities for product improvement

Requirements

  • A post-secondary degree or certificate in a relevant discipline is required (Library Science, Information Science, History, Archival Studies, Computer Science, or related field)
  • 3-5 years' experience in a technical environment or working with archives/records management systems
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills coupled with strong analytical and problem-solving skills are prerequisites for this role
  • An aptitude for technical concepts and the ability to simplify them for less-technical individuals is integral to your success
  • Experience using a development task-management system for backlog prioritization would serve you well
Bonus Points For:
  • Prior experience with Jira and/or Aha!
  • Pragmatic Marketing Product Management training or similar certification
  • Familiarity with archival standards (ISAD(G), ISAAR(CPF), EAD, DACS) or metadata standards (Dublin Core, METS, PREMIS)
  • Experience working in or with archives, museums, libraries, or cultural heritage organizations
  • Understanding of digital preservation concepts and long-term access requirements
